Data Processing Pattern

The order in which IMan processes data matters for transforms that work on hierarchical data.

Example

In the Map and Filter transforms, IMan starts with the innermost child and works outwards to its parent before moving on to the innermost child of the next node.

Two parent hierarchies with their records numbered in processing order. Numbering starts at the innermost Child C and works outward and upward, each parent taking a higher number than all its children, so the first Top Parent is 6 and the second is 10. A caption reads that data processing starts at the most nested level and works systematically through each parent node

Dependency

Because IMan processes children before their parents, a parent can depend on the results of its children, but a child cannot depend on its parent's result. To make a child transaction depend on its parent, you must use two or more transforms.

Example

A filter on the child records removes each child record from the dataset. A second filter on the header records deletes any header record that has no child records.

Result: the header records now depend on the result of the child record evaluation.
