File Services

File Services is a section of the Setup tab in the primary navigation strip. It holds the screens for defining and browsing file systems.

A file system is a named, reusable definition of a storage location — a bucket, a container or a drive — together with the credentials IMan needs to reach it. Once defined, a file system appears in the file system drop-downs throughout IMan, so an integration can read and write cloud storage in the same way it reads and writes a local folder.

Both screens in this section are available to Administrative users only.

File Systems

The maintenance screen for file system definitions. Three types can be defined:

Each type authenticates with an X.509 certificate rather than a stored password or access key. IMan can generate the certificate, or you can upload one. You then register the matching public certificate with the cloud provider. IMan does not accept long-lived secrets, such as AWS access keys or Azure storage account keys, in a saved file system.

File Explorer

A browser for the contents of any configured file system. Use it to confirm that a file system resolves to the location you expect and to organise the files within it.

Where file systems are used

You can select a defined file system in:

  • File Events, to watch cloud storage for file activity and trigger an integration.
  • The File IO controllers on reader and writer transforms.
  • The File Task and FTP Task.
  • The Email Task and email retrieve options.

Where no file system is selected, IMan uses the local file system of the machine it is running on. The drop-downs show this as Default.
