Hierarchical Data Files

Estimated time

Estimated time: 30 Mins

A hierarchical file holds header, detail and sub-detail record types in one file. In this exercise you set up a CSV Reader to read one, using HierarchicalDataInput.csv from C:\IMan\InputData\Training.

The exercise

Build an integration that reads the training file and produces a three-level dataset (Header, Detail and SerialNo), with the key fields set so that the relationships between the records are correct.

The cookbook article gives the steps:

Reading Hierarchical Data Files

It covers importing the file, setting the Hierarchical Dataset options so IMan finds the record types, and organising the hierarchy in the Field Mapping tab.

Background

Key Fields define the relationship between the record types. They are the part of this exercise that people most often get wrong. Read Key Fields before you start.
