Shopify Setup

IMan connects to a store through an app that you create in Shopify's Dev Dashboard. The app's access scopes decide what IMan can read and change in the store. IMan sends the app's Client ID and Secret to the store to get an access token. A token lasts 24 hours, and IMan requests a new one when it needs to.

Create the app in the Shopify organisation that owns the store. Its Client ID and Secret only work for stores in that organisation. You need app development permissions in the organisation.

Legacy custom apps

Since 1 January 2026, Shopify no longer lets merchants create legacy custom apps in the Shopify admin. A System Connector that uses a legacy custom app's access token keeps working. See Existing Connections.

Create the App

  1. In the Shopify admin, open Settings and select Apps. Under Build and manage apps in your Dev Dashboard, press Learn more and open the Dev Dashboard. You can also go straight to dev.shopify.com/dashboard.
The Shopify admin's App development page, reached from Apps in the Settings menu. A Learn more button sits under the heading Build and manage apps in your Dev Dashboard, and below it a Legacy custom apps list carries the notice that merchants can no longer create new legacy custom apps as of January 1, 2026
  2. On Apps, press Create app.
The Dev Dashboard's Apps page for a store with no apps, ending in a Get API credentials panel with a Create app link
  3. Under Start from Dev Dashboard, type an App name, such as IMan, and press Create app.
The Create an app page. Under Start from Dev Dashboard, the App name box holds IMan beside a Create app button

Release a Version with the Scopes

A version holds the app's configuration, including its access scopes. The app needs a released version before you can install it.

  1. On the app's Versions page, press Create version.
  2. Paste the scope list into Scopes. Leave the other fields as they are.
  3. Press Release.
The Create version page, with a Scopes box holding a comma-separated list of access scopes, a Select scopes link above it and a Release button at the top right

Install the App

  1. Open the app's Overview and press Install app on the Installs card.
The app's Overview page in the Dev Dashboard. The Installs card at the top right shows 0 installs and an Install app button
  2. Shopify opens a new tab. Select the store and press Install.

Copy the Client ID and Secret

  1. Open App settings.
  2. Copy the Client ID. Press the eye button beside Secret and copy the Secret too.
The Credentials card on the app's Settings page, showing the Client ID and a hidden Secret with the date it was created. An eye button, a copy button and a Rotate button sit beside the Secret

The Secret works like a password. Enter it in the System Connector and keep no other copy. If it leaks, press Rotate to replace it, then enter the new Secret in the System Connector.

Next, create the IMan System Connector.

Access Scopes

This list holds every scope the Shopify connector uses. Paste it into Scopes as it stands:

read_orders,write_orders,read_all_orders,read_order_edits,write_order_edits,read_assigned_fulfillment_orders,write_assigned_fulfillment_orders,read_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders,write_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders,read_third_party_fulfillment_orders,write_third_party_fulfillment_orders,read_customers,write_customers,read_companies,write_companies,read_products,write_products,read_inventory,write_inventory,read_locations,read_publications,write_publications,read_shopify_payments_accounts,read_shopify_payments_payouts

To give IMan less access, leave out the scopes for imports you do not use. Each import's page names the scopes it needs.

  • read_orders, write_orders
    • Orders, refunds, transactions and fulfillments, in the order pulls and pushes.
  • read_all_orders
    • Orders created more than 60 days ago. Without it, Shopify shows IMan only the last 60 days of orders.
  • read_order_edits, write_order_edits
    • Order Edit.
  • read_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders, write_merchant_managed_fulfillment_orders, read_third_party_fulfillment_orders, write_third_party_fulfillment_orders, read_assigned_fulfillment_orders, write_assigned_fulfillment_orders
    • Fulfillments. Shopify shows IMan only the fulfillment orders its scopes cover: merchant-managed for the store's own locations, and third-party for a fulfillment service's.
  • read_customers, write_customers
    • Customers, customer metafields, the customer on an order, and company contacts.
  • read_companies, write_companies
    • Companies, company locations and their contacts, and catalogs. These imports need a store with B2B.
  • read_products, write_products
    • Products, variants, bundles, product metafields, price lists and catalogs.
  • read_inventory, write_inventory
    • Inventory levels, and the inventory items behind variants.
  • read_locations
    • The locations on orders, fulfillments, inventory and catalogs.
  • read_publications, write_publications
    • The publications a price list's catalog creates.
  • read_shopify_payments_accounts, read_shopify_payments_payouts
    • Payouts.

Adding Scopes Later

A new version's scopes do not reach a store the app is already installed on. After you release a version with new scopes, a store owner approves them in the Shopify admin before IMan can use them.
